The Santa Barbara Jazz Society welcomes renowned Brazilian vocalist/guitarist Téka. A native of Londrina, Brazil, Téka mastered the traditions of Brazilian music at an early age. Along the way, she became equally entranced by American jazz. Her talented singing and guitar playing fuses the sensual rhythms and harmonies of Brazil with the sophistication and improvisation of jazz – a fascinating musical blend she calls New Bossa.

The warmth and beauty of the tropics are vividly embodied by Téka.  Featuring beautifully seductive melodies and infectious rhythms, Téka sings with a sensual lyricism, rich velvety tone and perfectly swung grooves from her extensive repertoire. From smooth bossa nova and Brazilian jazz to contemporary pop and lively sambas, Téka and her band perform with authenticity, energy, and charm. Whether accompanying herself with a guitar, performing with her acoustic trio or as full ten-piece band, Téka’s music always makes one feel just a little closer to Brazil, home of the samba.

She will be accompanied by Alyse Korn on piano, Santino Tafarella on bass, and Robert Kyle on saxophone/flute/percussion.

Téka has performed and recorded with Brazilian legends Hermeto Pascoal, Gilberto Gil, Flora Purim and Airto Moreira.

Support Jazz in Santa Barbara by becoming a Member

Membership to the Santa Barbara Jazz Society for 2021 is an annual fee of $25 for individuals and $10 for musicians & full-time students.

Admission to concerts will be $20 for members, $10 for musicians, and $25 for non-members.

You can renew your SBJS membership at the door the day of the concert or online . You can purchase tickets at the door and SOhO doors open at 12:30pm. Seating is limited and members are allowed in first, so plan to arrive early. For more information, please call 805.687.7123.

Members may also participate in our Scholarship Program that gives an award every year to the Jazz Studies Program of a local high school and includes an opportunity to perform for our membership.

Our Mission

The Santa Barbara Jazz Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating and preserving Americas unique musical contribution to the world-jazz. We present monthly concerts that feature all types of jazz musicians giving them a venue to utilize their talent. Members may also participate in our Scholarship Program that gives an award to a local high school’s Jazz Studies Program every year and includes an opportunity to perform for our membership
