The Santa Barbara Jazz Society presents

John Schnackenberg Trio

Sunday, November 10, 2024, 1-4pm
SOhO 1221 State St
Santa Barbara

Join us for an afternoon of jazz with John Schnackenberg. The Jazz Society will also be awarding its annual scholarship to the young and upcoming jazz talent at Dos Pueblos High School.

John has been playing saxophone for over 45 years and has appeared on national television and with Spencer The Gardener, as well as numerous jazz trios in Santa Barbara and Ventura.

JOHN SCHNACKENBERG – Born and raised locally, John began playing saxophone over 50 years ago and grew up in a household where the songs from the Great American Songbook were always playing from the stereo or played on the piano by his father. John has been a tenor player for most of his career, but his love of the baritone saxophone and the intimate sound of small group jazz recordings and performances is the inspiration to form the Schnack n’ Bari trio which is a collaboration with two excellent local musicians, Daniel Zimmerman on guitar and Kim Collins on standup acoustic bass and vocals. John’s longest running professional collaboration of over 35 years has been as an original member of Spencer the Gardener (which includes trumpeter Nate Berkey) who just released their latest studio album, “Shine On”.
KIM COLLINS – From the Heartland of the USA, nationally published vocal arranger, composer, player, singer and voiceover artist Kim Collins has spent his life in music both as a performer and educator from elementary school level to college courses. Additionally, he performs and records with excellent local ensembles The Idiomatiques, Boss Cats!, The Collins Jazz Tonic, Noël Carolers, Schnack n’ Bari Trio and others. Kim recently added his driving bass to the new Boyz II Men album, has sung in vocal groups along with Kenny Loggins, and played bass in big bands with legendary drummer Ed Shaughnessy.

DANIEL ZIMMERMAN – Daniel is a much sought after guitarist for both live performances and recording sessions and in addition to the Schnack n’ Bari Trio, Dan has played guitar professionally in Southern California for more than 20 years. The numerous artists he has performed and recorded with include Raw Silk, Spencer the Gardner, Roy Galloway, Jay Ferguson from Spirit and the internationally renowned Latin Jazz artists Teka and Luis Munoz. A respected guitar instructor for more than 20 years, Dan has written several articles for Guitar Player Magazine and for the website truefire.com.
