The Jazz Society welcomed Tom Gastineau and Friends Sunday July 13, 2025.
Tom Gastineau is a versatile pianist and composer who has worked and studied with some of the greatest musicians alive performing and recording music in a diverse range of styles. Known for the heartfelt quiet ambience of his economical solo piano style, and his fresh harmonic approach and stylistic synthesis as a jazz composer, he is currently collaborating on a new CD of original music with native Santa Barbara bassist and composer Randy Tico, and multi instrumentalist and composer, Jon Crosse.
The first LP by their Free Parking Jazz Composers’ Ensemble was co-produced by Tom and saxophone & EWI virtuoso Steve Tavaglione. It also features Jon and Randy along with drummer Mark Craney (RIP), and has recently been re mastered for release as a CD or download.
Tom has also spent over seven years working for Clint Eastwood three to four nights a week as a solo pianist at his Mission Ranch Restaurant and Resort in Carmel, California. Tom regularly performed favorites from the “Great American Songbook” at that venue along with Jazz originals by Bill Evans, Miles, Monk, Chick, Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, Herbie, Wayne, Benny Golson, and many others, along with the occasional pop tune by request.
This afternoon’s ensemble featured Tom Gastineau, keys, Randy Tico, bass, Robert Kyle, saxophone, Kevin Winard, percussion, Dick Weller, drums.
