The Santa Barbara Jazz Society welcomed The Rollins-Collins Quartet to the SOhO stage on Sunday, October 14 from 1 to 4pm. The quartet featured Tom Collins on guitar, Kent Rollins on piano, Bob Wider on bass and Eddie Layman on drums.
The Rollins-Collins Quartet is a Southern CA group that performs classic jazz, modern jazz, “funk” jazz and blues. It is composed of Kent Rollins- pianist, Tom Collins- guitarist, Bob Wider- bassist, and Eddie Layman-percussionist.
Kent Rollins, originally from NY, lives in Ventura, CA. He has toured with The Diamonds (“Lil’ darlin’”, “Strollin’”) and performed with Bill Champlin (Sons of Camplin, Chicago), Frank Butler (Miles Davis), Doug Webb, Dave Binney, Kendall Kay, LeRoy Vinegar, William B. Williams, Henry Franklin and Ric Fierabracci.
Tom Collins is a jazz-guitarist from Iowa, now living in Ojai, CA. He has performed with Rob Kyle, Tom Buckner, Bruce Lett, Ryan Roberts, Cougar Estrada, Adrian Rossen, the Martinez Brothers and Doug Webb.
Bob Wider is a bassist from Santa Cruz, now residing in Ventura, CA. He is inspired by John Pattitucci, Jaco Pastorius, Christian McBride, etc. He is best known for local music scene contributions working in the Monterey Bay area with Barry Meck, Dale Ockerman, Laurie Hofer, and Roger Eddy.
Eddie Layman has over four decades of experience behind him and has established himself as a strong and diverse rhythm section player. Between New York, Los Angeles and Asia, he has been the driving force behind a wide array of artists such as Dave Liebman, David Sanborn, Lou Donaldson, Richard “Groove” Holmes, Ray&Tom Kenndy and Roy Eldridge. Eddie is on 27 recordings.
