It was Super Bowl Sunday…Yes, there was a football game to watch, but more importantly .…there was JAZZ! Drummer, Kevin Winard, brought some amazingly talented musicians to the SOhO stage to entertain the SBJS members and friends. It was evident that these fine musicians love to play together. Tenor saxophonist, Jacob Scesney and guitarist, Grant Geissman really got off on trading licks and solos and bassist, Santino Tafarella and leader/drummer, Winard were right in there keeping it all together.

The guys opened the show with the jazz standard, Moanin’ followed by Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise played to perfection and at breakneck speed. The program was sprinkled with original tunes by the amazing guitarist, Grant Geissman. It turns out that he has co- written many tunes that we are familiar with from TV like the theme from the show “Two and a Half Men”. We even got to hear the whole tune, not just the 22 seconds limited on the show.

Besides being a first call drummer, Kevin Winard is a talented singer. We enjoyed his relaxed style on September in the Rain, Tangerine and a heartfelt, We’ll Be Together Again. Bassist, Santino had some great solos as well as all the players. Kevin, thank you for bringing, and in some cases, introducing these fabulous musicians to Santa Barbara!
