On Sunday afternoon, Oct 12th, The Ian Bernard trio, comprised of Bernard at the piano, Richard Simon on bass and Kendall Kay on drums, was featured at the Santa Barbara Jazz Society’s monthly concert at SOhO. Bernard spent the first set tracing his career in jazz. In doing so, the audience heard some jazz classics. Among them: Laura, All or Nothing At All, What is this Thing Called Love? Bye Bye Blackbird and a lovely introspective ballad of Bernard’s: I’m a Secret, Secret Man. He told stories and reminisced about musicians he had been involved with. Midway through the set, Sandy Cummings joined the band and sang five songs: Dindi, Teach Me Tonight, But Beautiful, L.O.V.E and When I Sing.
During the second set Teka came in from her Sunday gig and sang with the band: Old Devil Moon, Skylark, Waters of March, and The Hills.
The almost-full house, as always, enjoyed the music, the musicians and the warm vibes.
